Drive down US-192 past 6079 West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway right now and you’ll see scaffolding, a dumpster, and a handful of people in reflective vests. Give it a few weeks and you’ll see a patio full of people arguing over who ordered the grits.
Construction is underway on the Flying Biscuit Café in Kissimmee — the first café in Greater Orlando — with doors set to open late September.
The people behind it
John and Gisela Terranova are building this one. John started as a cook, landed on the opening crew for a national chain and helped open 17 restaurants in two years, then spent the following decades as a kitchen manager and general manager across a number of brands. He has opened a lot of other people’s restaurants. This is the first one with his name on it.
The Terranovas spent more than a year looking at franchise concepts before they picked this one. “I spent a long time looking for the right brand,” John said, “and the food is what settled it.”
What’s going up inside
- A dining room and a patio, for the mornings that earn it
- Free parking, on site — no garage, no circling
- Carry-out and delivery, plus full-service catering for events of any size
- Breakfast and lunch, seven days a week — hours get announced closer to opening
The menu lands the way it does everywhere else: biscuits baked all morning, served with apple cinnamon cranberry spread. Creamy dreamy grits. The shrimp and grits people drive for. Stuffed French toast that should probably come with a nap.
Why this corner
US-192 is one of Central Florida’s busiest roads. The site sits a few miles from Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando, right next to Celebration — which means travelers and neighbors ordering off the same menu on the same morning.
It’s also the only Flying Biscuit anywhere near Orlando. The closest ones today are up in The Villages and Gainesville, which is a long way to go for a biscuit. As John put it: right now, we’re the only Biscuit around.
The Terranovas were represented on the deal by Chris Taddei, co-founder of The List Orlando.

Flying Biscuit has 43 cafés open and 11 more in development across Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, the Carolinas, Florida, and Texas. We’re picking partners market by market, not filling in a map. Breakfast and lunch only means you close in the afternoon and get your evenings back.
